Springfield International Soccer Club is proud to announce the 2009 12th Annual Springfield Soccer Tournament which takes place from 7:00am on September 19th 2009. At least 12 teams are expected to participate in the soccer tournament which will be conducted together with, and followed by various other festivities to make this an all-family event. Last year’s tournament champion, U of I Champaign Soccer Club B, returns and joins 11 other hand-picked, international soccer clubs from around the country for a one-day picnic and soccer competition

You cannot afford to miss this event which will be graced, among others, by ambassador George Weah, one of the greatest soccer players of all time, and African Footballer of the 20th Century. The venerable Nelson Mandela has once referred to ambassador Weah as the “African Pride.” He is the only soccer icon ever to be crowned European, African, and World Soccer Player of the Year in a single year.

Equally important, the invited teams come with exceptional playing ability, organizational quality and class to excite the fans and all invited guests - especially the legend - that the trip to Springfield would be worth their while.

The tournament promises an outstanding soccer exhibition that ambassador Weah, his entourage, your club along with all other guests, and the city of Springfield will favorably cherish for years to come. Springfield is excited and ready to once again bring friends together for another merry weekend of family fun mixed in with dazzling displays of soccer talent combined with an international style.

The tournament is a one-day Olympic style soccer format followed by an evening of partying, food and fun. A pre-tournament evening is planned for Friday, September 18, 2009 for guests arriving early.  There are hotel reservations throughout Springfield for those who stay the nights til Sunday September 20th.
